The full name is Temporomandibular Joint Disorder. The name is intimidating, and many people suffer from this problem without even knowing it. The reason is that they don't recognize the symptoms, or they ignore them completely. This disorder can create many problems and recognizing it is one of those problems.
Signs of TMJ
The best way to know that you have any problem with your oral health is to learn the signs of the problem. While there are some signs that could signal different problems, if you see more than one of these signs it could signal a problem with TMJ.
Sore Jaw - TMJ stress the muscles of the jaw and that makes them sore.
Clicking or popping sounds - TMJ can cause the jaw to click or pop when moving. These sounds are not always easy for others to hear, but to the person with TMJ they are very obvious.
Locking of the joint - TMJ can cause the jaw to lock up for a short period of time. With a little pressure, you can resolve this, but it could happen again.
Sinus Pain -The stress on the TMJ can also lead to problems with sinuses and pain in that area.
Headaches and migraines - These can occur frequently for people who suffer from TMJ.
When to Seek Help The signs of TMJ can range from a minor inconvenience to debilitating pain. Some people can manage the problems that TMJ causes while other need to seek out help.
