Implant-Supported Dentures
Clackamas, OR

Our dental team will tell you that you need implant-supported dentures if you have more than one missing tooth from tooth loss. Implant-supported dentures are different from conventional dentures because these are anchored to your jawbone and do not simply rest on the top of your gums. This means that they will not move around once implanted in your mouth. The best thing about these dentures is that the recipients are able to talk, eat, and smile happily - knowing that no one will ever be able to tell that their teeth are not real. If you or someone you know has dentures and are interested in implant-supported dentures or learning about them, our experts at Clackamas Implant & Oral Surgery Center will be happy to help you determine if you are a candidate for them.

What are Implant-Supported Dentures?

The difference between an implant-supported denture and a regular one is that the implant dentures will never slip or move. These dentures are used to replace your teeth if you have more than one missing tooth or if you have lost all of your teeth. The overdentures are going to need at least two implants in order to be supported, but the final number of implants that you will be receiving depends entirely upon our experts’ discretion. For implant-supported dentures, attachments are placed underneath the denture and then connected to the implants. The overdenture will fit directly on the implant and keep it stable. After healing, you will be able to enjoy more of the foods and activities compared to if you got traditional dentures.

In order to receive this treatment, you must first have ample bone density. If you do not have enough bone in your jaw, our dental team may recommend a bone graft in order to help support the overdentures. The periodontal bone graft artificially restores the bones inside your buccal cavity so that we can proceed with implants or teeth restoration procedures. Furthermore, you must also have healthy gum tissue and a healthy immune system before we schedule any kind of oral surgery.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Basically, an implant is made in order to replace the root of your lost teeth which is made from titanium alloy and is used to anchor the crown of the tooth. As stated, if you do not have ample bone density, our dental team will recommend a bone graft. If you do have enough of your bone intact, our team will go ahead and place the implants into your jaw. Over the next few months of healing, the implants will connect to your jaw in a process that is called osseointegration. While you are healing, our dentist will check the progress of the osseointegration solely to make sure it is healing properly. After you have healed from the surgery, our dentist will connect the restoration in your mouth.

After the procedure, you must take care of the implant-supported dentures the same way you did with your regular teeth. You will need to brush and floss your teeth twice daily and visit our dental office for regular check-ups at least once a year. The overdenture is removable in order for it to be cleaned. Make sure to take out the overdenture and place it in water and the provided solution before you go to sleep in order to keep them from drying and cracking.
